What’s in your junk drawer?

There probably are not too many people who don’t have at least one drawer at home that has become a “catch-all” drawer. It is a place in which various items accumulate together, even though they are not “like” items. Many people call this a junk drawer, and the kitchen is a common place where you might find a junk drawer.

It occurred to me that I would like to take inventory of what I have in the junk drawer in our kitchen. I was amazed at the variety of items that had taken up residence in this innocent drawer.

I kind of knew what was in that drawer, the usual things like pens and paper clips, pencils, envelope cutters, lighters, scissors, stickie notes, rubber bands, etc. I knew I had some phone directories in there, but when I pulled them out to see how many, I found there were 10 phone books. It reminded me of a conversation with a friend a few days ago, when she asked, “Who uses phone books anymore?” The answer is that I do.
