Major accident on Road 23

At approximately 9:40 p.m. Tuesday, Madera Police Department responded to a traffic collision in the area of Road 23 and Avenue 16.

Upon arrival, MPD officers located a big rig which had left the roadway and was laying on its side along a canal embankment. The driver of the big rig was uninjured.

Another vehicle involved was an SUV. It was occupied by a husband and wife (driver/passenger). That vehicle was severely damaged, and the driver, a 51-year-old male, was transported to Community Regional Medical Center via helicopter in critical condition. His wife, 51, was transported to CRMC via EMS for injuries to her head and face.
