The Madera South Stallions made quick work of the Parlier Panthers to give head football coach Eric Tatum his first head coaching victory in the home opener.
The Stallions scored on their first six possession of the game and invoked a running clock at halftime for a 39-0 victory Friday night at Madera South.
It was an impressive debut for Tatum that saw his team tick at all three phases.
The defense helped out the offense. Parlier gained just 28 yards in the first half, and that included a 36-yard first quarter run.
A.J. Alvarez was a menace at linebacker for the Stallions, but it’s also a fun game to play when the opposing team doesn’t block the outside linebacker. Alvarez made five tackles for loss, including a sack, in the first half.
Meanwhile, the Madera South offense drove for 65 and 68 yards for its first two scores, and then had short fields for their next four scores.
Kicker Orlando Flores made three-of-five extra points, and also made two field goals in the win.
The Stallions opened the game at their own 35, and drove down the field. George Roberts got three straight carries for 25 yards to the Parlier 43 after the Stallions recovered a fumble.
Efren Cosio-Garcia got two runs for 12 yards to the 31. Two plays later, Roberts went to the right for a 29-yard touchdown run, but a penalty called the run back. Roberts didn’t mind, and went to the left side on the next play behind an Adam Sandez downfield block for a 25-yard touchdown run. No flags were thrown, and the Stallions led 7-0, after a Flores kick, three minutes into the game.
The Panthers gained 36 yards on a third-and-24 to make their only trip inside Madera South territory. However, it didn’t even last a play as the Panthers were called for a false start before the next play started.
Three straight runs, including a tackle for loss from Charles Moore, forced a punt.
John Ledesma quickly hit William Hernandez on the right. He raced down the sideline for a 16-yard gain. Add in a 15-yard face mask penalty, and the Stallions had the ball at the Parlier 37.
Ledesma got into the act by keeping the ball up the middle and broke down the right sideline. He went behind an Alvarez downfield block for a 37-yard touchdown run for a 14-0 lead.
The Stallions defense forced a three-and-out. On the punt, Michael Cuevas caught the ball at the Stallions’ 48. He broke a tackle right away, and then another at the Parlier 43. He was off to the races from there for a 52-yard punt return, and a 21-0 lead with 51.6 seconds left in the first.
The Stallions scored 12 seconds later. Parlier ran up the middle, but Moore stripped the ball carrier for the ball and fell on it for the recovery at the 14.
On the next play, Roberts went to the right behind a Hernandez block for a 14-yard touchdown run. Roberts took a big hit at the goal line, but he scored for a 27-0 lead.
Alvarez made tackles for a loss of three and a sack for a loss of 10 to force a punt, The punt went just 12 yards.
Ledesma passes to Jencarlo Avila-Nunez and Lucas Amezquita gained 23 yards, but the Stallions settled for a field goal attempt. Flores nailed a 33-yarder for a 30-0 lead.
The Panthers went three-and-out. Sandez pressured the Parlier punter, and forced him to run. Talon Goree and Francisco Garcia corralled the punter at the 16-yard line.
Moore gained nine to the seven, but two plays left the Stallions with a fourth-and-three from the nine with 0.9 seconds left. Flores nailed a 28-yard field goal for a 33-0 halftime lead.
The Panthers got the second half kickoff and went for it on fourth-and-six from their 19. Alvarez stuffed the play for no gain.
Marcel Michel ran to the right for 11 yards to the eight. Marcel got the carry, again, and went to his left for an eight-yard touchdown run with six minutes left on the running third quarter clock for the final score in a 39-0 victory.
