After a lethargic victory earlier in the week, the Madera Coyotes softball team exploded in the rematch against the Edison-Fresno Tigers for a 17-0 victory.
Although the Coyotes defeated the Tigers, 13-3, on May 25, the Coyotes put the hammer down early and often in Thursday’s rematch at Edison.
Madera scored three runs each in the first three innings before scoring seven runs in the fourth to remain undefeated in the County/Metro Athletic Conference with two games against Madera South this week.
Briannah Hamilton highlighted a three home run surge for the Coyotes with her school-record breaking seventh home run of the season (Emily Chavira in 2016 held the record).
In addition, lead-off batter Erika Perez continued her hot streak at the top of the line-up and hit her first home run of the season. She was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI.
Since getting moved to the lead-off spot in the batting order, Perez is batting .677 (21-of-31) with 15 runs scored in nine games. She also has three doubles, a triple and a home run.
No. 9 batter Nevaeh Galvan highlighted a three-hit day with an inside-the-park two-run home run. She also scored three runs and drove in four.
Eliza Nunez was 3-for-4 with a double and a triple. Kailea Ricks added two hits and an RBI.
Alexis Galvan picked up the victory by tossing four innings of one-hit ball to go with seven strikeouts.
The Coyotes hope to keep the offensive onslaught going in the final week of the regular season. They have scored 86 runs while going 8-0 in the CMAC against only 23 runs scored. In the past four games, the Coyotes have scored 66 runs while allowing 10.
Madera plays at Madera South on Tuesday and ends the regular season Thursday at Zimmerman Field. Both games have 5:30 p.m. first pitches.
