The students and staff at Pershing Elementary School hosted a food drive during December with the help of Valley West Christian Center.
Pershing Elementary ended the three-week food drive collecting more than 1,400 items. The drive was coordinated by he Pershing CAN Committee Amy Kuhn and Joyce Black.
Black and Kuhn sent out a letter to Pershing staff to help fill up principal Christina Riche’s office so she can’t sit down, and they succeeded.
“Teaching the students the value of giving, treating others with respect and taking pride in our school,” said the CAN Committee in a statement. “Watching the smiles in their faces and hope in their eyes when they contribute to our community as valuable members. Our job is to serve as educators and be role models to our students, showing them it is important to be leaders that give back to the community. These are steps and memories that will last a lifetime of the ‘remember when I….’ Hopefully we can instill philanthropic values and see those in our future leaders.”
