New definition regarding fireworks law

The Madera Police Department would like to remind residents that, as of June 12, a recent change to the Madera Municipal Code regarding fireworks is now in effect.

One of the changes to the Municipal Code includes a new definition of a “Responsible Party.”

This change allows officers to hold property owners, parents, guardians, or other responsible individuals accountable for the use of illegal fireworks on property they own, occupy, or control.

In other words, the person lighting the fireworks may not be the only person to be held responsible. If illegal fireworks are being used on property, or property owners knowingly allow them to be used, they may be subject to citation and fines.

The Madera PD’s goal is not to issue citations, it is to keep our community safe. They encourage all residents to celebrate responsibly, know the law, and help prevent fires, injuries, and unnecessary disturbances.

The Madera PD encourages the community to work together to ensure a safe and enjoyable Independence Day for everyone.
