Rants — Advocates are calling on more counties to reduce and even drop marijuana convictions. “Dawn Swinton” wrote, “What a headache for the judicial systems involved.”
“Mary Frederick” wrote, “It figures.”
Rave — Esteban Andrade, an oncology patient, and his family suggested the idea of a “No Mo Chemo” Bell for patients to ring after they complete their chemotherapy at Valley Children’s Hospital. “Sandra Carter” wrote, “I bet you the sound of that bell will ring in the hallways of Valley Children’s Hospital and in everyone’s hearts that hears it!”
Rant — U.S. National Weather Service Hanford California reported a continued dry pattern is in store for the next several days at least for the Central Valley. “Cindy Chidlaw Diaz” wrote, “Should of saved last year’s rain and snow not send it to the ocean. Good ole boys of Calif. Moonbean needs to go.”
Rant — Suppliers are blaming the increase on crude oil costs and the state’s higher taxes. However, motorists can still find gas under $3, according to a report from KFSN News. “Angela Ponte” wrote, “What’s new, we are always screwed.”
Rave — Madera Tribune columnist Bill Coate penned his weekly history piece about Madera from 25 and 50 years ago; the highlight being the old Madera movie theater in downtown. “Carmela Martinez” wrote, “That’s where my parents met.”
Rants — A California judge has ruled a bakery owner can continue to refuse to make wedding cakes for same-sex couples because it violates her Christian beliefs, the Associated Press reported. “Sean Thomas” wrote, “Civil-rights era people want to know how ‘being refused a custom cake’ is even in the same LEAGUE as ‘being arrested and thrown in jail for drinking from the wrong water fountain.’”
“Patrick Odom” replied, “Correct headline not trying to spin it ‘Judge rules baker has constitutionally protected right to freedom of speech (art) and religious liberty when requested to make custom cakes. Off the shelf cakes still considered goods/inventory and therefore not protected.’”
Rave — Madera District Attorney candidate Sally Moreno was recently interviewed by radio host Brooke Ashjian, with their subject being current district attorney David Linn. “Cindy Chidlaw Diaz” wrote, “Next DA of Madera County.”
Rant — The Madera Planning Commission voted to approve a Conditional Use Permit to allow for the construction of a new commercial building in a vacant lot located just off of Cypress Street and West Olive Avenue. “Debi Brizendine” wrote, “How about restaurants or Target?”
