MUSD sub rate is highest in valley

The Madera Unified School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved raising the teacher sub-daily rate to $220 for regular substituting and $250 for a permanent substitute.

These new rates, voted at the Oct. 12 board meeting, make Madera Unified the highest-paying district in the Central Valley. Madera Unified is making a strong effort to recruit and retain the best substitute teachers in the state. Madera Unified’s vision is to set the standard for hard work creativity and resiliency with a fearless drive to continuously improve.

Madera Unified currently serves over 20,000 students, of which 90.4 percent are socio-economically disadvantaged and 28.1 percent are English learners.

“We know that there is an elite pool of talented teachers in the Central Valley, and these new rates make us competitive to go get those teachers and make them available for our students who deserve this and more,” said Jay Aiello, MUSD Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources.
