MUSD issues statement about substitute teacher incident

Madera Unified is aware of an incident involving a substitute teacher at Matilda Torres High School who allegedly engaged in a political discussion with students on topics related to immigration. The views reportedly expressed do not reflect the values of our school district.

School administrators took immediate action upon learning of student concerns, and we are conducting a thorough investigation following established procedures. Our classrooms are intended to be inclusive spaces guided by California State Standards in a nonpartisan manner.

To ensure transparency, a message was sent to parents, guardians, and staff informing them of the incident. Additionally, students were encouraged to reach out to their counselor or an administrator if they needed any type of support.
