California Highway Patrol officers responded to a multi-vehicle crash on Road 27 at Avenue 17 that resulted in a one fatality.

The Merced Communications Center received the call Wednesday afternoon and determined that a vehicle, a Chrysler 300, was traveling northbound on Road 27 and was waiting to make a left turn onto Ave. 17 going westbound.

Another vehicle, a Nissan Rogue, was traveling southbound on Road 27, approaching Ave. 17 when the Chrysler failed to yield the right of way and caused the Rogue to take evasive action.

The action caused the Rogue hitting the right rear of the Chrysler. Meanwhile, the Rogue continued southbound on Road 27 where it crashed into a Ford pick-up, which was traveling northbound behind the Chrysler.

The driver of the Rogue suffered fatal injuries and its two other passengers sustained major injuries. The driver of the Chrysler reported minor injuries, as well as the driver of the pick-up.
