Liberty seven falls to Badgers in conference

The Liberty Hawks girls basketball team tried to keep pace with the Yosemite-Oakhurst Badgers, but couldn’t beat their depth in a North Sequoia League loss Tuesday.

The Hawks scored just two points in the fourth quarter while the Badgers closed the game on a 12-0 run to secure a 65-24 victory.

Eight of the nine Badgers players scored in the win. That was one more player than the entire Liberty roster, who had five players score, led by Madison Devine with seven points.

The Hawks trailed 16-7 at the end of the first quarter, helped by a 3-pointer from Camille Vestal.

Yosemite outscored the Hawks 19-8 for a 35-15 halftime lead.

Liberty found itself trailing 44-18 three minutes into the third quarter. Despite buckets from Leeasia Whetsel and Vestal, Yosemite closed the quarter with seven points to take a 51-22 lead.

After another Yosemite bucket, Devine hit a jumper, but that was the last points Liberty scored.

The Badgers closed out the quarter on a 12-0 run, incuding a 3-pointer and three free throws to invoke the running clock in a 41-point victory.
