Hundreds roar into VW Spring Fling

Classic Volkswagen Beetles showcased during the annual VW Spring Fling.
Hundreds of Volkswagen enthusiasts gather to celebrate vintage cars at the Madera Spring Fling.

Bugs, bugs, bugs, as far as the eyes could see. This is not a science fiction story but one of brilliant German engineering. The 24th annual VW Spring Fling took place on Sunday at the Madera District Fairgrounds. Show cars, daily drivers and works in process, totaling about 450 cars, invaded the fairgrounds for a Volkswagen car show and parts swap meet.

“We have about 50 vendors,” said Jim Lane one of the organizers of the show. “We have registered 450 cars.”

Admission and parking for the event cost $2 per person or a can of food for the Madera Rescue Mission said Gary Howell. The show was hosted by the group N.O.S. Productions that stands for New Old Stock.

Sponsors for this year’s show included Koch’s Restoration Parts and Accessories, Cool Stuff VW, Clovis Volkswagen, All American Glass, Wall & Eades Auto Upholstery, Ala Romeo & Fiat, Deutschland Metal & Body, Sebring West, CB High Performance Racing Products, Metal Craft Motorsport, and U.S. Tint/Shadow Enterprise.

The stars of the show included VW Microbuses, Karmann Ghias and the signature VW Beetle.
