Madera’s District 1 City Councilmember Cece Gallegos honored five women at last week’s City Council meeting. Those women are all in her district and have made a difference in the community.
The honorees surprised with awards were Candy Talley, Christina Riché, Annette Kwock, Debi Bray and Charlotte Brewer.
In addition, the City Council and Mayor Santos Garcia presented the Madera Evening Lions with a City Council Proclamation in celebration of the club’s 100th anniversary. Also, Red Cross, The Madera Tribune and D.J. Becker were awarded with Mayor’s Certificates.
The City Council also approved an ordinance that would adjust current district boundaries. The new boundaries are re-drawn due to facts such as population variance and geographic contiguity. The council elected to move forward with the proposed ordinance for possible adoption at its next meeting.
Madera Mayor Santos Garcia, who had a vicious bout with COVID-19 during the pandemic, also proposed that meetings continue over Zoom and it was approved for the next 30 days.
Madera City Manager Arnoldo Rodriguez also announced that the application process for prospective cannabis businesses will begin in April.
