CHP Madera officers responded to reports of a male walking in the roadway, causing vehicles to nearly crash on Road 27, near Berenda Elementary School on Tuesday, at about 11:30 a.m.
CHP officers quickly arrived at the scene and observed the male subject walking in the middle of the northbound lane of Road 27, at Club Drive, impeding traffic.
The male subject was later found to be under the influence of a controlled substance, and was placed under arrest. The quick actions of the responding CHP officers led to the subject being detained, and prevented a threat to elementary school and the motoring public.
