Yosemite Renaissance 36 exhibit opens

OAKHURST — The Yosemite Renaissance exhibition is an annual exhibit that offers an opportunity for artists inspired by nature and the California Sierra Nevada region to display and promote their art.

For more than 150 years, artists have played an important role in the establishment of our state and national parks.

Yosemite Renaissance was founded in 1985 to motivate artists to share new interpretations of Yosemite and the California Sierra Nevada region, inspiring the public to preserve and protect our parks, wildlands, and natural resources through art.

The 36th annual Yosemite Renaissance exhibit showcases 60 works by 59 artists, includes paintings, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, textile art, mixed media, and photography. The annual exhibit presents $4,000 in cash awards to participating artists.

The show opens Friday at Yosemite Gateway Art Center. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday (40982 Highway 41, Oakhurst). Attendance is free to the public.
