Want to know why new housing is so expensive?

City Council members and their planners should look at regulatory costs, which can add up to 35 to 40 percent of the cost of a new house.

Public officials should start paying attention to this if they want affordable new housing.

The next time Planning places a list of onerous conditions on a project that cost substantial amounts of money, they should remember that each condition will increase the cost of housing.

Wake up, folks. It is easy to talk about affordable housing but no public official seems truly concerned about the real problem associated with producing housing that people can afford.

Time for a meaningful discussion. You can read an entire article on this subject in Architect Magazine, using this link: https://www.architectmagazine.com/practice/can-uncle-sam-beat-the-nimbys.
