After ending her volleyball career at Fresno State, Linda Lucas knew she wanted to go into teaching, however she still regrets not playing her last year.

“My last year at Fresno State, we got a new coach, but I thought about playing volleyball,” Lucas said. “I wanted to concentrate on teaching because that’s where the mindset was. I look back on that and thought about it. I could have learned more the easy way if I spent my last year teaching and playing volleyball.”

Lucas was hired by Madera High School in 1972 as a physical education teacher, but it took until the final second to get hired.
