The Matilda Torres Toros had the uphill battle of trying to beat an opponent for a third time in the quarterfinals of the Central Section Div. VI playoffs.
However, Torres took advantage of eight Roosevelt Rough Rider errors that led to seven unearned runs, and seven walks, to pull out a 9-5, eight inning victory Thursday. Of Torres’ nine runs, only five were driven in.
The fifth-seeded Toros trailed 5-3 entering the seventh inning. They scored two runs in the seventh and closed the game with four more runs in the eighth for the win over top-seeded Roosevelt.
