Earlier this month, CHP Madera stopped, and arrested, a driver speeding on State Route 99 near Avenue 17.
In his vehicle, CHP Madera officers found, in addition to cannabis for sale, a spider monkey, about a month old.
The driver was placed under arrest for DUI, and the spider monkey was turned over to Madera County Animal Control. The monkey was later turned over to California Department of Fish and Wildlife, and given to the Oakland Zoo.
