Every five-seven years, local speed limits must be updated and a few of the recommendations were presented to the City Council at its regular meeting on March 15, and was approved.
The California Vehicle Code sets speed laws for highways and local roads and must be updated every few years with an Engineering and Traffic Survey.
“In order to vary speed limits from those established by the CVC, a local agency must conduct an E&TS that justifies a speed limit for a particular roadway segment; otherwise, the segment is considered a “speed trap,” which can render speeding violations inadmissible in court,” read a statement in the Madera City Council agenda.
