Slayton pleads guilty; shots fired near Berenda

Cody Slayton pled guilty to the murder of Josephine Jimenez in Madera Superior Court.

Slayton pled guilty Thursday for the murder that occurred on October 13, 2019.

As a result of his plea, he will be sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 15 years. He will also be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

He waived his appellate rights. This will help bring closure and justice to Josephine Jimenez, her family and the community.

Shots fired

The Madera County Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting shots fired in the area of Country Club Drive and Midland Way.

Deputies arrived at the scene, which was near Berenda Elementary School, on Thursday evening, and discovered evidence of a shooting.
