In the early morning of September 21, Madera County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a domestic violence call in Chowchilla. The suspect, 43-year-old Jose Gonzales Maciel, fled the scene after firing multiple rounds at a female victim during a violent altercation.

The Madera Special Enforcement Team pursued leads to East Palo Alto. With the assistance of the East Palo Alto Police Department, Maciel was located and arrested on September 23. A firearm believed to be used during the incident was recovered.

Maciel, a convicted felon and parolee at large, was booked into Madera County Jail on numerous charges including attempted murder, child endangerment, and criminal threats.
