New prison warden is appointed

Janel Espinoza, from Visalia, was recently appointed Warden at the Central California Women’s Facility, in Chowchilla, where she has been acting warden since July 2017.

She served as the Chief Deputy Warden of Central California Women’s Facility, from 2016 to 2017. She previously served as an Associate Warden of the Substance Abuse Treatment Facility at California State Prison, Corcoran from 2009 to 2016. Espinoza served in multiple classifications at the Substance Abuse Treatment Facility from 2002 to 2016, including Correctional Administrator, Facility Captain, and Correctional Counselor Supervisor.

Espinoza began her career in 1996 as a Medical Technical Assistant at Wasco State Prison and worked at Corcoran State Prison as a Correctional Counselor I from 1999 to 2002.

This year, the National Latino Peace Officers Association recognized Janel Espinoza as a 2018 “Central Valley Women Making Celebration “recipient.
