MUSD to cut ribbon for new school, program

Madera Unified School District plans to hold two separate ribbon cutting ceremonies on the same day later this month — one for a new school and the other for a new bilingual education program.

The first ceremony on Sept. 27 will be for the new $32 million Virginia Lee Rose Elementary School, which is designed to accommodate up to 850 students and has been paid through funds from the passage of Measure U. Before the ribbon cutting, students will carry artwork while parading around the new campus.

The second ceremony on Sept. 27 will be for the new Madison Elementary Dual Language Instruction (DLI) program. The DLI program at Madison elementary is the first one in Madera County. According to MUSD, Dual Language Instruction is a form of education where students are taught literacy and content in two languages.

“The program prepares students for 21st century learning, as well as, college and career opportunities that will lead to success in a global economy,” said Babatunde Ilori of MUSD. “Qualified biliterate teachers will be utilized in the classroom to ensure success in the program.”

The DLI program ribbon cutting will be at 8:15 a.m. at Madison school, 109 Stadium Road, and the ribbon cutting and parade at Rose Elementary School, 1001 Lilly St., will be at 10 a.m.
