Officers look for evidence and vehicle parts after a unidentified man was struck and killed on Cleveland Avenue and D Street early Sunday morning. The man was reportedly in the crosswalk and was thrown about 130 feet to his death.

A pedestrian crossing east Cleveland Avenue at D Street was struck and killed at 12:30 Sunday morning as he used the crosswalk, according to the Madera Police Department.

Police are working to identify the unknown man, and are reviewing area video for more details on the vehicle involved in the fatal incident.

Sgt. Mark Trukki said the investigation was ongoing and officers were following all leads before releasing any more information.

“We know he was in the crosswalk and was thrown about 130 feet. No alcohol was found at the scene,” Trukki said.

The man was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene. Toxicology reports are pending. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Madera Police Department at 675-4220.
