The former World Champion MadTown Robotics team will host the 12th annual MadTown Throwdown this weekend at Matilda Torres High School.
Matches begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday and will feature 26 schools from across the state.
“We will have a lot of matches,” said R.C. Chahal, MadTown Robotics coach. We want to give every team 10 matches, but it’s hard with 46 robots. We have teams that are coming in that need experience. We have double the amount of teams this year so we will have more teams than normal.”
Chahal said there will be 26 schools, including five from the Central Valley competing. There will be 46 bots in the competition. MadTown Robotics will feature three bots — a competition bot, a practice bot and a freshman bot.
MadTown Robotics, who won the World Championship in 2019, will be among the top teams participating in the offseason tournament. Also included in the competition will be perennial top five team Citrus Circuits and top 10 team BREAD.
“There are three teams that are good worldwide,” Chahal said. “We have other teams that are division and regional winners. It’s going to be very competitive.”
The MadTown Throwdown is the last offseason tournament for the teams in California before preparing for the new season in January.
“This is the same robot that battled for the championship in April,” Chahal said. “This is a great time for the kids to come out and check out the technology. We use this tournament as training for the kids. I told the kids to be the top three.”
The Throwdown is free to the public and will be held at the MTHS gymnasium.
