The Madera Unified School District Board of Trustees met last week to discuss several agenda items, including major upgrades to athletic facilities at all three middle schools, maintenance work at Thomas Jefferson Middle School, improvements to Matilda Torres High School’s stadium, renewal of a lease for a Child Nutrition warehouse, and a new billboard campaign.
Thomas Jefferson, Martin Luther King Jr., and Desmond Middle Schools are expected to receive full renovations to their track and field facilities.
At Thomas Jefferson, the proposed “Track Modernization Project” includes converting existing dirt tracks to all-weather tracks, re-turfing the football and soccer field, and installing new field lighting. The school will also receive new bleachers with a seating capacity of 1,000. The current tennis court will be replaced with a parking lot with about 80 spaces, and a new tennis court will be constructed just south of the lot.
