Traveling through the early morning fog to Kingsburg proved fruitful for the Madera South Stallions cross country team to run at the John Seaman Invitational.
The varsity boys team edged out Clovis North on Saturday for their second race title in as many weeks.
Dylan Devine led the Stallions with a second place overall finish with a time of 14:56. Alejandro Gutierrez was in the top five with a fourth place finish, four seconds behind Devine.
Isaac Chavez was sixth and Adrian Hipolito was ninth to place four Stallions in the top 10. Estevan Medina concluded the team score with a 17th place finish. Vidal Luna ended up 21st.
In addition, the frosh/soph boys team placed second, just ahead of the Matilda Torres Toros and Ulysses Vega won the junior varsity race by 33 seconds.
Two weeks ago, the Stallions ran in the Clovis North Twilight Invitational at Woodward Park.
Rather than teams running together, the race were separated by place on their teams. So, the No. 1 and 2 runners raced against each other, then the No. 3 and 4 and the 5, 6 and 7 runners go in another race.
The Stallions boys team earned the team championship with the anchors, Devine and Gutierrez, placing in the top five of the No. 1 and 2 race.
Medina and Luna placed second and third, respectively, in the 5, 6, 7 race.
Chavez and Hipolito battled in a race where 11 seconds separated the top seven runners. Chavez placed fourth and Hipolito was fifth.
Heading into the final race of the day, the No. 1 and 2 race, the Stallions were in a battle with Clovis West, Clovis North and Clovis. Both Devine and Gutierrez stepped up to lead the Stallions to the team title.
