Only Throwback Day and lunchtime wars remain Thursday before Homecoming festivities at Madera South High School climax with a Friday morning parade, midday rally, and evening football game complete with a skydiver, spirit walk and crowning.
“Homecoming is true testament of our school’s culture, spirit and pride about being a Stallion. We have officially been a school for 11 years now and have had nine graduating classes so we hope to have many alumni come home for Homecoming.” said MSHS Activities Director Julie Larrivee.
MSHS will parade down Stadium Road and Maple Avenue beginning at 10:10 a.m.
“The best seats are on Stadium Road … (as the) parade travels southbound on Stadium and then westbound onto Pecan (Avenue) before heading on school grounds,” said Larivee. “You won’t be disappointed with over 20 floats, brand new vehicles, five diesel trucks, elementary school floats and of course Stallions.”
This year’s grand marshal will be Jim Hubbard, who worked for 33 years as an area school counselor/psychologist and program specialist before retiring in June 2016 and moving to San Diego. He began with Madera County Office of Education and Chowchilla Elementary School District before moving on to Madera Unified School District. His wife of 29 years, Elizabeth McDaniel, died of cancer in June 2016. In 1992, they adopted a son, Dustin, who serves as a Seabee in the U.S. Navy.
Pre-game events should begin at 6:45 p.m.
“Our Homecoming game against San Joaquin Memorial will be filled with action on and off the playing field. Come early to see the Grand Marshal presentation, (and) over 24 clubs in the spirit walk,” she said. “Madera Parachute Company will be flying in with a skydiver to drop off the game ball” by 7:25 p.m.
The game’s half-time show will feature underclassman royalty winners, the crowning of senior king and queen candidates around 8:15 p.m., and 40 staff persons displaying custom signs for each football player who chose them to be honored.
