Madera FFA earns first state position in 50 years

The 2021-2022 California Association FFA Officer Team was elected and Madera FFA’s Lesly Madriz was named as State FFA Treasurer.

This is the first time in more than 50 years that Madera FFA has had a State Officer. Madriz, who is also bilingual in Spanish, will spend the next year traveling the state as one of six members leading California FFA. The state officers were selected May 16.

Madriz was also named State Champion in the Job Interview competition and was the State Winner in Ag Education Proficiency.

Other notable Madera FFA winners include Morelia Vieyra, who was a State Finalist for Star Reporter and the Outdoor Recreation Proficiency award. Omar Lopez was the State Winner for the Turf Grass Proficiency and Deyvet Carbajal was a State Finalist for Star in Agricultural Placement.

Madera FFA’s Vet Team won the State Championship with State High scoring individual Elena Robles, fourth high scoring individual Kassandra Hernandez with Marilyn Bautista and Mercedes Gonzalez rounding out the team. The team was coached by Kristin Sheehan.

The Madera FFA Meats team earned 2nd place in the state with fourth-highest scoring individual Karen Angon-Duran and fifth-highest scoring individual Enrique Vieyra-Hernandez. The team was coached by Brent George.
