A volunteer group has established the Madera Spay Neuter Clinic, Inc., a 501 c3 nonprofit, and is in the early stages of writing for grants and fundraising to open a much needed, affordable veterinary clinic in leased space in the city of Madera.
Monthly Pop-up Spay Neuter Events are planned prior to the opening of the clinic, to begin to help reduce the current flood of homeless animals. Founders DJ Becker and Kirsten Gross said the overpopulation of unwanted homeless animals was now a crisis. Both have decades of experience in local animal rescue, sheltering, fostering, and adoptions. Gross retired as the long time director of Madera County Animal Services in December of 2019.
