Longtime Babe Ruth coach to be honored

If Kenny Taylor had his way, the Madera Athletic Hall of Fame ceremony would not include honoring him. Taylor hated the spotlight and wanted it turned to the athlete.

Fortunately, the Madera Athletic Hall of Fame isn’t up to Taylor, and he will be honored with 10 other people on December 18 as a member of the 10th class of Hall of Fame inductees.

“You could not get him to get up to make a speech,” said brother-in-law Ron Pisk. “His thing about being in front of a microphone, that wasn’t his style. He always said other people were better at it. Just let them do it. He was very adamant that the recognition goes to the kids. He didn’t want to be in the limelight. He would allow his picture to be taken for Boy of the Month for the Kiwanis. He didn’t want any of the hoopla.”
