Upon reflection, I owe Donald J. Trump an apology. And a “Big and Beautiful” thank you! I’m green with envy at his natural ability to float the scum of Washington, D.C., as a metaphor for his administration. Wow! Nobody does it better than him!
Drain the swamp? Promise made and promise kept. He also dramatically used science to prove that anything blue must be peeled away from our national monuments.
Trump’s latest farce is genuinely funny because, unlike the other unforced errors of his administration, no one has died, thousands of Americans have not needlessly lost their jobs, our costs of living have not soared, and his deflective lies are so absurd that filling the Reflection Pool with red Kool-Aid won’t cure this debacle. Man overboard!
You say that, as a Trumper, you missed these facts because, well… they’re facts?
Trump, without Congressional approval, drained the Lincoln Memorial Reflection Pool for repairs. Without consulting the National Park Service, the agency responsible for the monument, he estimated that the cost would be about $1 million, maybe $1.5 million, and awarded a no-bid contract to a company owned by a Trump donor for 10 times as much. The company is called Greenwater Solutions. I can’t make up this stuff.
The pool was drained, painted reflective, midnight blue, and refilled. Trump boasted that the repair job was beautiful and indestructible, even impervious to knives, criticizing Obama and Biden for not doing it before him. The bloviator provided colored charts as he boasted that the beautiful renovation would last 50 years, maybe 100 years.
Within two days, green algae covered the water surface and large pieces of the new, indestructible blue paint floated to the top. Who says Trump disdains green initiatives?
Our nation’s shallow pool boy went from denying knowledge of the details of the new shallow petri dish for breeding photosynthetic aquatic organisms to crafting the tale that invisible terrorists cut “gruesome” 250-foot, no 300-foot, no 350-foot boxcutter slashes in the indestructible paint. Or the pool liner. The pool is surveilled, 24/7, with government cameras and by Park Service employees.
The NPS released a grainy video of someone kneeling on the edge of the pool, reaching into the water in broad daylight at 3:39 p.m. on June 19th. The person is wanted for questioning. The NPS also says that there is a large rip or tear in the pool liner. Cause unknown.
And now, taxpayers are paying for a fence around the pool and National Guard troops to keep gawkers away and to facilitate the Trump cover story that our national monument needs protection from swarms of invisible, underwater boxcutter carrying Antifa terrorists.
Trump’s Reflection Pool epic failure holds up a mirror to his corruption, ineptitude, arrogance and lies. It’s the new definition of the word “metaphor.”
Our golden flake of an emperor wears no clothes.
Uh-oh. Maybe Trump does need a cover up?
