Letter: Police Chief Lawson praised for good deed

Madera Police Chief praised for a good deed, helping an elderly woman cross the street safely.

Sometimes it pays to be a senior. I happened to be at the Hinds Hospice Thrift Store on Friday (March 23) during its ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Afterward I had to cross an unusually busy D Street. As I excused myself before cutting through a group of policemen, this very nice officer offered to escort me across the street. Of course I accepted. As you might know, he actually stopped traffic, and I never felt safer.

Debi Bray, CEO of the Chamber of Commerce, who was at the event, told me the nice officer was Police Chief Dino Lawson. I must tell you that Chief Lawson either was taught well by his mother, was a Boy Scout, or received good training from the police academy. Or it could have been that innate quality that makes for a good officer of the law.

Whatever the reason, it certainly made my day.
