Joey Lest of Madera will represent an important cause that is close to his family’s heart in Saturday’s Short Track Shootout at his home Madera Speedway, carrying the colors of the Valley Children’s Hospital on his No. 88 Ford in the nationally-televised stock car race.
Lest’s motivation to win for Valley Children’s Hospital runs deep. His older brother Richie battled cancer as a child, and was treated at Valley Children’s Hospital — a place that gave Joey’s family hope during their most difficult time. Richie’s courage and the exceptional care he received continue to inspire Joey both as a person and as a racer.
Saturday’s race will spotlight Valley Children’s cancer programs and the families they serve, including Joey’s own. Carrying the hospital’s logo on his car is Joey’s way of saying thank you — and of bringing awareness to the incredible doctors, nurses, and staff who helped save his brother’s life.
