Fresno City graduates 22 police academy cadets

The Fresno City College Police Academy celebrated the graduation of Class #162.

The outdoor ceremony for 22 cadets was held on the Academy grounds Friday and followed COVID-19 protocols.

This year was a particular challenging time for these cadets who are now ready to serve their community. Class #162 began their training on September 28, 2020. The cadets successfully completed the Academy’s 1,030-hour intensive format passing over 42 topical areas including criminal law, investigations, patrol and juvenile procedures, vehicle operations, traffic, emergency management, first aid, professionalism and ethics, physical training, and many other related subjects.

“The police academy is important to our community because we provide cadets to support our law enforcement/correctional training partners. All of our training is designed to ensure our communities have the best trained personnel to make our communities a safe place to live,” said Gary Fief, Police Academy Director.

The Police Academy is certified by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training to present the basic academy course. A graduate is eligible to be hired as a police officer, deputy sheriff or district attorney investigator anywhere in California. Several other states recognize this certificate for employment.

Twelve cadets have already been offered jobs at local agencies including the Fresno Sheriff’s Department, and police departments in Fresno, Merced, Los Banos, and Reedley.
