The Madera baseball team celebrates their championship win after a game at night.

In a battle of father and son, Foster and Parker overcame a late Round Table ralley to win the Madera Babe Ruth championship in extra innings.

After a coming from behind late, Round Table, coached by father Frank Borges, was unable to complete the comeback for the second time after Foster and Parker, coached by son Matt Borges, scored a late run to win the Madera Babe Ruth Championship game in eight innings, 6-5, at Mel Parker Field on Friday.

In the first father-son manager championship game, Foster and Parker’s, 10 hits were enough to seal the victory. David Zavala, Isaac Flores and Anthony Barriga combined for five hits, five walks and three runs scored.

Round Table, on the other hand, found hits harder to come by only collecting six, a majority coming in later innings. Only Marcus Tadei had more than one hit for Round Table.

Action began to pick up right away in the top of the first after Foster and Parker’s first three batters reached base — Zavala, Brian Monges and Flores. They took a 1-0 lead before recording an out after Zavala crossed the plate.

Round Table responded with a run the bottom of the second inning. Jackson Smith reached base on an error, which was followed by a single by Noe Garcia to score Smith.

Round Table scored another run to take a 2-1 lead after Matthew Dudley reached base with a walk. Nick Sweet later drove him in with a single.

Both teams sat deadlocked before the fifth inning brought some action to the game.

Foster and Parker tied the game at two after Monges reached on a fielder’s choice. Flores walked, and Nate Palacios stepped up to the plate and brought Monges home.

Foster and Parker continued its assault at the plate in the following inning. Barriga opened the top of the sixth inning with a double. He came around to score after Diego Flowers singled. Christian Tapia singled to set up Monges for an RBI opportunity.

Foster and Parker hung three runs on Round Table in the top of the sixth inning to push the lead 5-2.

Round Table had an answer, however. In the bottom of the seventh, with their backs against the wall, they rallied. Devon Reyes singled to give Round Table its first runner in the inning. After a strikeout out, Sweet singled to drive in Reyes. Tadei followed with a single to score Sweet.

Tadei came around to score after Tyler Zamora reached base on an error to tie the score at five.

In the following inning, Zavala walked and scored on a error to score the go-ahead run for Foster and Parker.

Round Table was blanked in the bottom of the eighth for a 6-5 Foster and Parker victory.
