Ficklin Vineyards has accepted nomination for submission to the 2019 California Wine Grape Growers Competition. This competition, held in Sacramento, is not a competition open to entry. All wines accepted into the competition are by legislative nomination only. Ficklin Vineyards received one of only nine Gold medals presented in the competition for their Old Vine Tinta Port.

As the most honored port in the United States, Ficklin Vineyards does not enter many competitions anymore. When they decided to present their popular Rosé Port and renowned Aged 10 Years Tawny Port into competition, it isn’t surprising they selected the 2019 Sunset International Wine competition developed by Sunset Magazine. This contest draws top-level wines and top-notch judges to create a wine experience widely considered the most prestigious in the United States and open to entries from around the world.

Wines were judged from a field of more than 2,600 entries. Only wines rating 90-plus points were awarded Gold medals and were eligible to move on to the “Best of” Category. Ficklin Vineyards Rosé Port received a Gold Medal; and their Aged 10 Years Tawny Port received a second Gold Medal — as well as the award for Best of Class. Watch for results in an upcoming issue of Sunset Magazine.
