Family takes oaths: 2 LiCalsis now sit on judge bench

Judge awards certificate to young man in courtroom setting.
A young man receives a certificate from a judge during a formal ceremony in the Madera County courtroom.

The courtroom was packed with people, as they anticipated the historical moment at the Superior Court of California, County of Madera.

Eric James LiCalsi was sworn in as judge Monday afternoon. Administering the oath was his father, the Honorable Ernest J. LiCalsi. It was the first time in the history of Madera County that both father and son are judges in Superior Court at the same time.

In an interview with Madera Tribune’s Bill Coate, both Ernie and Eric LiCalsi shared Eric’s background and what led Eric to the position he would hold.
