High school students from throughout Madera County participated in the virtual Fresno Area College Night.
Madera County Superintendent of Schools sponsored the event on Sept. 8, which was hosted by Fresno County Superintendent of Schools.
This year’s College Night looked different with students attending through their screens to visit virtual college booths. They were still able to talk directly to college representatives by chat or video, ask questions, join group sessions, and research colleges by watching videos and perusing online booths.
Students and parents may continue to access everything College Night had to offer throughout the school year, except the live interaction with colleges. The site will be available through the spring and parents and students are encouraged to register at any time to access the information.
During the event, students were able to attend live virtual break-out sessions and ask questions. All sessions will also be available to view throughout the year. Sessions includef: Campus Panel Discussion, which included representatives from various types of colleges; First Generation College Bound Students; Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU); Financial Literacy; and General College Planning and Admissions.
This year, 69 colleges participated, including Madera Community College. In-state and out-of-state colleges attended, including universities, state colleges, city colleges and private schools. Madera County had 126 students participate, which accounted for 12 percent of all students in attendance.
“This interactive college night experience was a great opportunity for students to learn what various colleges have to offer and receive that one-on-one experience that they may not have received in-person with thousands of other students,” said Dr. Cecilia Massetti, Madera County Superintendent of Schools. “We were so happy to partner to offer this opportunity for Madera County students.”
