County reports first West Nile Virus case

Madera County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) is reporting detection of West Nile Virus (WNV) in mosquito samples collected on July 6.

MCDPH recommends residents contact the Madera County Mosquito & Vector Control District at 662-8880 to request assistance with any mosquito infestations.

“This early detection of WNV is a reminder of the higher risk this year of getting sick from mosquito bites. It is important to follow recommendations to lower your risk of being bitten by mosquitoes.” stated Simon Paul, M.D., Madera County Public Health Officer.
