City honors retiring police chief with surprise parade

Community gathers to honor retiring police chief during surprise parade in Madera.
A crowd of residents and officials celebrate the retiring police chief with a parade and heartfelt appreciation in Madera.

As part of the celebration held for the retiring Police Chief Dino Lawson, the City of Madera held a parade in his honor Thursday morning.

Members of the community gathered in a top secret mission to show their appreciation one last time before Chief Lawson hangs up his uniform and begins a new journey in life.

During the parade, a cavalcade of emergency vehicles from various law enforcement agencies showed their support by driving past the police station in downtown Madera. Then, they turned on 6th Street, and made their way to the Frank Bergon Senior Center for a reception where participants and attendees were treated to snacks and refreshments, and enjoyed an opportunity to wish the police chief a warm farewell and thank him in person for the years he has given in shaping Madera.
