Child struck by car

An 8-year-old child crossing Ellis Street was struck by a car and sustained major injuries in the early morning hours.

On Tuesday, a 25-year-old male was driving eastbound on Ellis Street, approaching Ezequiel Tafoya Academy, in a Honda Civic. A crossing guard (wearing an orange reflective vest and a stop sign) was helping students cross the street.

The guard stopped westbound traffic and continued walking across the street, signaling eastbound traffic to stop.
