Book Talk: Lisa Scottoline, ‘Most Wanted’

“Most Wanted” (2016, 417 pages in paperback format) is a bit of a departure from Lisa Scottoline’s usual fare. The plot revolves around the relationship between a husband and a wife, neither of whom has committed nor even been accused of committing a murder or any other crime.

Christine and Marcus Nilsson want a baby. They’ve tried and tried but without success at Christine conceiving. She’s been to clinics, they’ve been to counseling, and she’s had extensive physical examinations. Finally, it was determined that Marcus was incapable of producing sperm. He even had testicular surgery, the physician trying to find any trace of spermatozoa. But there was none.

Adoption was ruled out because Christine wanted the experience of pregnancy, even wearing frumpy maternity clothes. At Families First, their fertility clinic, Michelle LeGrange steered them to Homestead Bank, that advertised, “New Donors Daily!” Christine wanted to use donor sperm, but Marcus was somewhat reluctant, although he bought into the idea.
