The early returns looked promising for the Madera South Stallions girls basketball team in its non-conference match-up against the Mendota Aztecs.
However, after taking an 8-3 lead, the Stallions went cold and the Aztecs got hot. Mendota scored 20 straight points, including holding the Stallions scoreless in the second quarter for a 54-25 victory Wednesday at Madera South. It was the first of three home games in three straight days for the Stallions.
The Stallions only took 35 shots in the game, and made eight (23 percent). They also turned the ball over 26 times.
