Madera Coyotes wrestling senior Madison Avila is making her way atop the national rankings at 101 pounds with her performance earlier in the season.
Avila is ranked No. 6 in the nation and will next wrestle in Napa Valley Girls Classic this weekend where two of the wrestlers ahead of her in the rankings will also wrestle.
At the Lemoore Last Girls Standing tournament, Avila pinned every opponent to place first and earned the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament award.
Madera’s Zuleyma Sanchez-Vasquez also placed fifth.
At the Beauty and the Beat Tournament at Matilda Torres High School, Avila was dominant in another first place finish. Mars Mujica pinned two of her opponents to place fourth for the Coyotes.
On Dc. 27, Avila competed against 58 represented schools at the Brittany David Invitational in Brentwood. She won all five of her matches to earn another first place finish.
At the Napa Valley Girls Classic, Madera is one of 130 teams competing against nationally ranked competitors.
“This will be a great opportunity to see where Madison is at on the national level,” coach Ryan Philp said.
