Madera Coyotes wrestling coach Joe Romine picked up his 200th career win at the helm of the Coyotes and was honored during last week’s team banquet.
Madera Athletic Hall of Famer Corky Napier interrupted the proceedings to tell a little history of Coyote wrestling and presented Romine’s award.
Since Coyote wrestling was created in the 1950’s, they haven’t experienced a losing season.
This season, Madera heavyweight senior wrestler Sergio Rios went from being unseeded in the CIF Central Section Master’s Championships to a fourth place finish and earned himself a spot in the CIF State Championships in Bakersfield.
Since the championships were established, Madera is the only school to have a participant every year.
Romine also acknowledged the individual Central Section Master’s Championship of senior Madison Avila, at 103 pounds.
