Madera Community College was awarded a $2.1 million College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) grant through the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Migrant Education.
C.A.M.P. is an educational program that serves students from migrant or seasonal farm-worker families. C.A.M.P. assists students in their first year of college with academic, personal, and financial support.
The funding supports completion of the first year of studies and ensuring students are retained into their second year.
Services may include outreach and orientation, assistance to transition into their first year of college, Summer Bridge program, college and career counseling, tutoring, educational workshops, leadership development, trips to cultural and educational events, financial aid stipends, and referrals to campus support services. The total dollar award to be distributed over five years is $2,153,509.
“The ability to engage, mentor and validate our students’ lived experiences will change our students’ trajectory and have a positive impact on our community,” said President Ángel Reyna.
C.A.M.P. is currently accepting applications for the Fall 2022 cohort. This summer, in July 2022, the new C.A.M.P. cohort will be participating in a two-week Summer Bridge program to prepare first-year students for their transition into MCC. To apply for the C.A.M.P. program, a student must meet the following criteria:
• Be a first-time student at MCC
• Be enrolled full-time in their first year at MCC
• Be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident
• Been part of the migrant program anytime from K-12, or
• The student or their parent(s) or guardian must have worked a minimum of 75 days within the past two years in agriculture-related work.
