Homeless veterans or illegal aliens?

Veterans’ Voices is directed toward veterans and their families who have given so much to ensure our freedom in this country. This is an area where you may share your experiences, or read of other veterans’ experiences. We thank you for your service, and hope that you know how much you are loved and appreciated.

I know we all have been watching the news, scrolling through Facebook, reading newspapers and the talk around town. It has been an old tale stating men talk about cars, women, work and sports. Women talk about clothes, children, work and cooking. I hope I didn’t offend anybody. I am no way stereotyping.

I have been listening to different conversations around town and on television. Seems like just about everybody, including the news stations has been talking about the upcoming election between Harris and Trump. As you all are aware, I am for veterans, young and old. War or non-war veterans. Whatever is best for veterans, is good in my book. I believe that our veterans fought and died for our freedom. They had our back, so now we owe them enough to have their back.

When we went to war, we did not know if we were coming back. And if we did, would we be able to live in a normal society? I, for one, know that the transition from spending time in a war zone and then attempting to live in this world is not an easy task. Toby Keith said it one time, “Our veterans spend a year in a war zone, then come home and fight a battle in their head for the rest of their lives.” I realized that first hand. I have been home from Vietnam now 53 years (August 23), and I still attempt to live in this world. Fortunately, my wife has put up with me since 1969. She saved me. I just don’t know how she did it. I asked her just this morning that same question. She said that she knew that the old Royal was in there, deep down, and she is waiting for him to come out. She said that I am still not all the way here. I can only agree with her. Now enough rambling.
