The Madera Odd Fellows Lodge #327 awarded $1,000 Faye Shields Memorial Scholarships to 12 graduating students at Madera High Schools as part of the recent Scholarship Awards Nights.
Madera High School students receiving scholarships are Eric Nelson, Isaac Nolan, Landon Rodriguez, and Addison Rollins. Madera South High School recipients are Justin Caballero and Victoria Herd. Matilda Torres High School students are Mara Cervantes, Latigo Garlick, and Abraham Melgoza-Barajas. Liberty High School recipients are Abigail Clark, Alice Perdomo, and Malia Waag.
The Madera Odd Fellows and Madera Rebekah Lodges began awarding scholarships in 1969. At that time, the largest award was for $50.
Even after the Rebekah Lodge closed, the Odd Fellows have kept the tradition of awarding scholarships continuously for the last 58 years.
Because there are so many deserving students, the choice of which ones receive scholarships is always a difficult decision.
